Bless Me, Ultima by Rudolfo Anaya
5.0

At first, this book started out super slow and I wasn't sure if I would actually enjoy it, but the overall themes/symbols/motifs of this book is insane. The idea of the golden carp and how Antonio starts to want to believe in this false god because of all the horrible deaths and catastrophes that occur in this book. I think one of the saddest things in this book is that Antonio witnesses all these horrible crimes at the mere age of 6-7. Imagine seeing someone getting killed at such a young age. What kind of impact would that have on you?

My biggest question is, why does evil win so much in this world? For example, Tenorio kills Ultima's owl, which in turn kills her. He is upset because he cannot do evil because of his daughter's deaths, this in turn makes him want revenge on someone who only does good. Ultima.

I honestly recommend this book to all people because it really teaches a lesson, and shows how evil is so prominent in today's society.
