A good summer read that will make you long for summers past when life was wrapped up in the comfort of your immediate surroundings. Overall this book was a fun read, I was somewhat surprised that I liked the teenage flashbacks more than the current happenings but maybe that’s because there seemed to be more depth and character. However sometimes these chapters felt a little slow. While I finished the book happy with the outcome I didn’t feel like I knew the cast of characters as they currently were. I saw the “twist” (not revealed until the 3rd act) coming from the beginning but was still disappointed when it happened. Overall it felt like I was wrapped up in a version of
The Summer I Turned Pretty
for an older audience and with a narrator who felt less aware of the dynamics at play than she should have been.
