The Earl I Ruined by Scarlett Peckham

Constance can get fucked. Trying to frame publicly embarrassing a man over consensual sexual encounters as essentially a feminist action is awful.

She’s mad because at a house party she flirted with someone else to make Julian notice her, he warned her against the man, and the man acted awfully?

She’s mad because he doesn’t trust her, when all she’s done is read his diary without permission, out his sexual inclinations (incorrectly), endanger the reputations and livelihood of the patrons/staff of his club, and involve his family in the scandal she created when he asked her not to, yeah why would he ever not trust her after that?

She’s mad he doesn’t appreciate her efforts to control the scandal, when those efforts wouldn’t have been required if she hadn’t created the goddamn scandal in the first place!

Yeah, in the past he was censorious and critical, but it’s hard for me to feel too much sympathy for her when the majority of her actions in this book alone do in fact deserve criticism. Not to mention, she gave it back as good as she got for all those years.

I was slightly annoyed with him for not believing her at the end but idk, I’m not sure that she had really earned his trust at that point.

The ending, with their public confessions, is trite modern crap that would have both of them exiled by any good society
