We Are the Weather: Saving the Planet Begins at Breakfast
by Jonathan Safran Foer
Rating this at 2.5 stars. I think that this book has really good intentions to draw attention to the climate crisis and to understand that it is fundamentally a collective action problem. The author argues that to address this, each individual must assume greater responsibility, starting with dietary choices that reduce beef and dairy intake.
I appreciate what the author tries to do, but I found the message of individualizing the climate crisis really tone-deaf when so many communities lack the resources to make such a significant change. The author addresses this point and Global North- South dynamics a little, but I didn’t feel like he wanted to grapple with the intersectionality.
