The Girls by Emma Cline

3.5

There were aspects of this that were superbly written. Cline really captures the ennui of the teenage summer, trapped between an outgrown childhood and not yet established adulthood.

The story itself was very unimaginative, copying too directly from real life while never directly acknowledging it. I'd definitely be interested to read another novel by Cline because she's clearly very talented and great at getting to the heart of complex feelings and experiences.
