Nothing Burns As Bright As You by Ashley Woodfolk

4.0

“The truth is
I am infinitely powerful.
The truth is
I only surrendered to you because I wanted to.
The truth is
I love you
and there is strength in that, too.
But maybe there’s too much unbridled power
in a love like ours
for someone used to holding it all in her own hands,
like you.”

This book is so stunning, intense, and emotional!! It’s told in prose and there is so much beauty in it. It’s about queer girls navigating their intense romantic and toxic relationship, and coming to terms with the fact that they may be better off without each other.

Nothing Burns took me right back to high school, when I was figuring out my sexuality and relationships. The author has an excellent quote in her author’s note about this book that I’ll leave you with:

“I wanted to write a book that showed that the end of a relationship doesn’t mean you failed, or they failed, or you weren’t meant to be. It just means you were meant to be for a time. And even when you get hurt, the feelings and experiences are still real and important and meaningful.”
