Quincy, Sam and Lisa belong to an exclusive club, but it's a club noone wants to be part of. They are sole survivors after three different massacres and the press calls them Final girls. They have never met in person, but when Lisa dies under mysterious circumstances Sam is suddenly at Quincy's door. She says she wants to see how Quincy is doing, but is that true?
This should have been a book I enjoyed, but I believe the narrator ruined quite a lot for me. Her intonation was too perky to suit the content, which made it all wrong. At the halfway point I switched to the ebook and I actually skipped some chapters.
I didn't like any of the characters. Quincy is our main character and the story is told from her point of view. Except in the retrospective parts from Pine Cottage, where her friends were all killed in horror movie fashion - then it's in third person. The flashbacks are quite gruesome, since Quincy has repressed most of her memories of that night, so we don't really know what happened. I'm expecting to be surprised - and I actually am.
I had some difficulties with the contrasts in the book. The horror movie theme was mixed with baking and blogging (Quincy's present-day life) and it became too much of a glitch for me. Also, Quincy keeps saying she's fine and has put Pine Cottage behind her, but she's knocking down Xanax and wine like her life's depending on it. I didn't exactly get what I was expecting, but if you have ever pondered about what happens after the horror movie has ended, this might be a book for you!
