Caught by Surprise by Jen Turano

4.0

A great end to the Apart from the Crowd series by Jen Turano as the reader follows Temperance, the last main wallflower introduced in this series. Temperance and Gilbert are lifelong friends, but also opposites. When they get caught in a situation that has Gilbert proposing marriage to save their reputations, Temperance thinks he is out of his mind. They would kill each other! Wouldn't they? Or can a marriage work between them? I found myself laughing to myself at some points and other moments held an air of mystery. There was intrigue, murder plots, forgery, and abduction. Add to that several plot twists that I certainly didn't see coming. It was slow reading at first (probably due to my own ongoing reading slump), but the last 100 pages of the book I flew through. Temperance was quite feisty but Gilbert was quite persistent. I also enjoyed being able to see characters from the other books in the series so frequently, especially with all the hijinks they've all been known to get into. The epilogue of Caught by Surprise really wraps up the whole series nicely too.
