A very good story in the space opera genre. Has something of a David Weber feel but with less techno-babble. Story flows well, has an interesting flawed main character and a good supporting cast.
Basic synopsis...
While enroute to a major counter-offensive, the Alliance battle fleet recovers a hundred year old survival pod containing our protagonist (legendary Alliance hero), Jack Geary. The battle goes very badly and when the fleet leadership is wiped out it's suddenly up to the very recently reawakened "Black Jack" Geary to save what remains of the fleet before the enemy Syndic can wipe them completely out while also dealing with the mixed pressures of personell who look at him as a mythic fleet and those who look at him as a mothballed relic.
It's the first book in a series and it ends on a bit of cliffhanger.
