Had to quit halfway. Got bored at page 217. Interested in the first chapters, but the pace turned into a slog. Put the book down for a couple days, and when I picked it back up I had forgotten who everyone was. The naming structure system is a burden and the main strike against the book. Methimar, Metimel, Sethius, Cethus, Cauis, etc. You need a print out to keep every one straight.

Slow pace
Deep characters (if you can re!ember who they are)
Likable main character
Not very steam punk or fantasy heavy (they're fantasy creatures, but honestly they could all have been humans. The world didn't speak for itself much)
For patient readers who like political maneuvering/dialogue

Didn't realize this was YA when I borrowed it from the library. Reads more like middle grade with the reader having to buy that only inexperienced teenagers can save the day by magically being better than every adult. Blah

This is not written very well. Reads like the author consulted the thesaurus every other paragraph and way, way too many descriptors that slog the pace/narration.

I might have enjoyed this as a child, but as an adult reader there's just no excitement or pull to keep reading.

Awful and boring. Two strikes (I hated So Thirsty more than this one) against the author, though Black Sleep was great. Maybe because it actually had a plot and a likable mc?

Honestly, the mc gave up an unhealthy, manipulative relationship with a man, only to wind up in another with someone else, and then become the abuser in the epilogue, except the author tries to show it as an empowering win?

I give up! I'm so bored! I don't care anything for these characters!
