This is a wonderful account. I have often struggled with books such as this, but the writing style is engaging and detailed. It was enough to hold my attention and captivate me, for which I am grateful. At first I was worried that I may not have enough context to read about this as I have not studied WW1 in awhile, but it was fairly straightforward as well. Overall, a challenging read that was definitely worth it.

I want more people to read this book!!! If you want to get into classics, I think this is a great jumping off point as it is short but has a sort of timeless feel to it. Very easy to read imo and got me out of a reading slump. You can tell that the author understands people and human nature and it's just such a delight to read. It's like a grown-up little house on the prairie. If you liked quaint stories about homesteading like that as a kid, you will certainly like this grown-up version with deep themes and trials.
