I initially picked up this series because I’m a BIG CCJ fan but I want aware this series had multiple authors. The pacing of this story was much slower than I prefer and I struggled to keep my interest. I had actually DNF’d at 31% but decided to push through after a couple days break. I’ve never been a fan of insta love or miscommunication and these are MAJOR tropes in this story. Trent (MMC) had some redeemable qualities but Jade (MFC) simply came off as insecure and toxic. They’re journey to each other simply felt drawn out and redundant. Other tropes that I do love occur - found family, single parent, sports romance - but not enough to win me over. As much as I love CCJ I doubt I’ll be continuing this series.

I’m not generally a Historical Fiction girl so my experience with this book may be different than those who are but the pacing was slower than I typically enjoy.

What kept me going was the plot twist at about 65% - it helped me to push through.

The MCs are flawed so it’s hard to love them but at the same time they were all traumatized in some way. I also had to often remind myself that they were YOUNG (teenagers) so their actions and decisions were often misguided and immature.

Mrs. Wiggins was a G tho! She handed her business with dignity and grace. Can’t nobody take that from her. She love her family , worked hard and helped others. She deserved more help from those around her 💯
