Mind your business

The twist gets 4 stars, the rest of the book leading up to it gets 2 stars, so let’s split the difference I guess

"This is what women should do for one another. We are a continent. We stick together. We all rise up, or we all go down"

3.75/5

This was a super cute summer contemporary. I was anticipating it's release and it did not disappoint. I will say there were two major downfalls of this book:

1. I didn't really like the main character. I feel as though she was supposed to be slightly unlikeable at the beginning and then we were supposed to watch her grow as a person and like her more in the end. While I did see character growth, she seemed very bratty to me, which put me off from rooting for her. HOWEVER, I was rooting the entire time for that movie.

2. I had a major issue, and I'm really not sure why, with the constant explanation of Irish idioms, or things of that nature. This also ties in with the main character, as she would constantly belittle Ireland for using different terms than America. I honestly just didn't feel as though it was needed.

I will say that this book is marketed as a feminist read, I didn't get that feeling while reading it. There was one character, the director of the movie (who is my queen), and is very feminist throughout the book and I feel as though the main character was supposed to be learning about feminism throughout the story, which I think was executed.

All in all, I would recommend this book if you like a good YA contemporary read. It wasn't particularly hard-hitting, and didn't alter my perspective of society, but it was fun!

B- for ending when things were just getting good and steamy
