Did not finish book. Stopped at 25%.
About a quarter of the way through, the main character’s mother in law tells a story about the horrendous lynching of a black man. In addition, the author pigeonholes one of the black characters (Mrs. Greene) in a stereotypical caretaking role. It made me wonder why so far the purposes of the black characters were to be murdered or to serve. The housewives are also portrayed in a one dimensional manner that becomes grating after a while. I get that the author might be trying to make a comment about the racism and misogyny in our society, but it fell flat. I couldn’t finish.
