Books set in Barbados, about Barbadians and our culture are my favorite. It’s because I can identify, visualize and smile at understanding just what it means.

Shondrell’s debut novella shares not only the history of Barbados but also the present day happenings - ZR culture, potholes, weather patterns, Chefette, people watching, maliciousness!

What I liked about These Fields & Hills is that as Alyssa went on with her day which just was not going her way and she took the time to examine her life, her choices and her future. I also enjoyed the humour that made me cackle out at least 4 times (feel free to ask me which pages).

There were valuable lessons Alyssa learnt about family, friendship and life choices.

Shondrell Meredith, this book was too short! I would have loved to hear a bit about Alyssa’s parents, more on how Demarco & Alyssa grew up together, and how the family handled Demarco’s presence.

One other thing, I would have loved to know about Alyssa’s love life! Oh I don’t like Bernicia and I am still upset with Demarco!

Thank you Shondrell.

In this Young Adult novel from best-selling author Talia Hibbert, Bradley Graham and Celia Bangura were best friends from a young age but they grew apart and went their separate ways while at the same school.

Talia will take you on a high school journey with Bradley, the cool handsome guy and Celine, the awkward yet confident stylish girl.

As they both make decisions on their future and work together for school, they are faced with reexamining what ended their friendship.  The impact these two have on each other is unmatched and that forces them to figure out their feelings for each other.

I love the cover of this book and although I didn’t love the book as much as I had hoped, it was still a cool story about friendship, romance, love, inclusion, life choices, maturity, second chances and forgiveness.

From Chapter 1, I knew Joe Wolf would have been someone not to mess with. This short story that is 0.5 to The House of Wolves was an action packed short listen.

Joe shares his life story while fighting to hold onto his beloved football team - The Wolves. Whoever wants his team is not playing - they mean business and strong arming is not out of the question.

Now I can’t wait to read House of Wolves.
