Big shoutout to Nina Rey and her team for the ARC of the best book ever! ❤
Seriously, I loved this book so much. All of the characters were fun, deep, emotional, and all so different in their own ways. I hope that as the series continues, we can dive deeper into Levi, Jake, and Emma.
Kamila and Cameron - you have my whole heart. The drama, the tension, the eventual love and compassion!!! I read this book so fast because I simply couldn't put it down. I have read a lot of spice in my time and this author truly gets it right. Not only was it well written, but there were no ridiculous words for body parts and it felt realistic. Sex positive also, which I always love to see.
Also, as soon as I saw 'Decode' by Paramore in the playlist, I KNEW there was going to be a Twilight reference. And there was (big fan here, if you don't already know). Speaking of music, I really loved how it was incorporated in this story. Not only do we get to know what Cameron is listening to when he's walking to class, but we get to know what songs Kami loves to dance to. It makes it so fun because that gives me the opportunity to listen alongside the characters.
And the nod to Gilmore Girls in the beginning? I was sold IMMEDIATELY. Small town college, cozy, fun, emotional with the right amount of friend, relationship, and family drama. And David? I hope you ROT!
One thing I didn't love, and this is definitely a personal thing that I am sure other people won't agree with, but I didn't like the translations. The main character and her family are Latina/o. Great. I assumed we would get some Spanish thrown in here and there, and we did. Amazing. But the translations after the dialogue threw me off a little. I know not everyone who reads this will be fluent like me, but I just didn't personally enjoy it. I've read other books that have used languages other than English without translating and it doesn't bother me. If I didn't know what it said, I would simply look it up. Again, this is just a personal preference and didn't take away from the story itself; just felt unnecessary to me.
TLDR; I absolutely LOVED this book. I cannot wait for the rest of the series, I can't wait to purchase the physical version, David sucks, Cameron is incredible, and Kamila is stunning/smart/funny/strong. So much fun and friendship and love and the perfect level of spice. 1000/10!!!

Listen, I am not a fantasy girlie. But this? This is it. I am genuinely surprised I enjoyed this especially because I struggled to get through the beginning. It definitely has a slow start, but once it picks up - worth it. In the last half, I didn't want to stop listening (actually annoyed me when I had to pause it).
Kissen? Talk about well-rounded queer, disabled representation. We love to see it! I loved her. I loved that she wasn't perfect and all powerful. She made mistakes and had hate in her heart that eventually grew into love for those around her.
Elogast - you tricky little thing!!Had me believing this man was gay. But shockingly no! He was just down bad for the king in a different, not good kinda way. I loved him, too. Our knight turned baker who is just trying to do his best while struggling with PTSD.
Inara and Skedi were adorable and only a little annoying. One thing I couldn't get past is that 'Skedi' sounds like a little kid trying to say the word spaghetti, so that's often how I pictured him.
Overall, I enjoyed this. Not something I would give five stars to just for the pacing and Skedi and some minor things I didn't enjoy. I am going to ATTEMPT to read book 2 because I feel invested. I really hope the pacing is better and not so slow/uneven. We will see (though the audiobook is SIXTEEN HOURS long!!!).
Before I go, let me share my favorite interaction between Elo and Kissen:
Kissen: "That's an interesting knife."
Elogast: "That's an interesting f*ck to give about it."

Shoutout to the Alise Monroe team for the ARC!
I loved this book. Genuinely, and I mean this in a good way, I felt like I wrote it. Like this is the sort of story I daydreamed as a love struck teenager. Carrington and Thea are childhood friends, sweethearts, soulmates, and absolutely perfect for one another. I love them, I love this story, the drama, the spice.
The flashbacks and the present really flowed well together. There was always a point to be made or a memory to understand and the writing was truly great. It felt as if we were truly living inside Thea's and Carrington's heads when they would be in a moment and think back to the past.
I will say that the ending felt a little rushed and it didn't necessarily wrap up every lose end. I know this is an inevitable series, but I think some things maybe could have been answered in this book. What happens with Travis? It's hinted at, sure, but I have to know! What about Ripley and the town? Did they find out the truth? I can only hope we get these answers as the series continues.
If you're looking for an adorable small town romance, great spice, music bleeding into every page, and the most wholesome friendship/all the love, then this is definitely the book for you.
And even though the ending did feel a little rushed, I'm hooked and I'm giving it five stars. I LOVED this book.

Sigh. I don't know.
Was it good? Sure.
Was it thrilling, shocking? No.
Was it annoying? Yes, absolutely.
I think maybe I am just over Freida. Proud of her for letting the husband be a good person AND having a book take place in another state that's not NY or NJ.
Teagan and Tuna were the worst. Polly? Annoying. Hank? Great. 10/10.
Like, I don't even know what to say. Its a thriller (ish) with a twist that I predicted (kinda). Not her best, not my favorite.

Are you looking for a ridiculous plot, tons of eating out, petty arguments, a billionaire demon, and a girlie struggling for money? Then this is the book for you! I'm shrugging while writing this review. It's just a fun, ridiculous plot, smut book. Do I want to read all 7? Yes but mostly because the monsters are CRAZY (a basilisk, a UNICORN?!)
And that's all I have to say; helped me get out of my book hangover from all my January reads.

Cute, sweet, and smutty. I love Bridger Kingman and was happy to get to know him and April just a bit. I know some folks don’t like insta love, but I almost always will. Nice little prequel 🩵

I had to think about this one and I still have some mixed feelings. And let me say, if I ever have to hear/read the word 'assimilate', I might just lose it.
Hayes is adorable and so sweet; a virgin MMC putting an ungodly amount of pressure on himself to be perfect even though his family would love him no matter what he did, even if it meant not playing football. (People often use the term 'cinnamon roll' for characters such as Hayes). Not my favorite Kingman brother, but he's a good third (for now).
Willa - girl, I get it. I, too, had a 'not like other girls' phase. She's a nerdy, study abroad, book girlie who has to come home from Vietnam to help her family who she doesn't really get along with/like. Which, girl, I get it - your mother and brother do suck. But she really cared about her family and Hayes; she truly just wanted to be happy while escaping family/societal pressures.
Taking into account how old both characters are is important - they're just kids (22) in the grand scheme of life. And I know for a FACT that when I was 22, I was annoying, selfish, and thought I had to have my life together, all while also living in Denver.
It was a cute book with some small annoyances, personally. The drama wasn't really drama to me. Like, why did we have to call an entire family meeting to talk about how to make their relationship work? Long distance won't kill you, bestie. Especially when it's only MAYBE twice out of the month AND you own a private jet.

This was so adorable and sweet. Chris and Trixie are the epitome of friends-to-lovers. Trixie is a plus size vegan librarian just trying to give her chickens the best life possible (I can relate as a vegetarian librarian trying to give her dogs the best life possible). Chris is a star quarterback sweetheart who is just so in love with his best friend, but never wants to cross her boundaries or make her feel uncomfortable.
This is the first book in this series, but I did start on book two. And as of right now, Chris is my favorite Kingman brother (sorry Declan!). I'm really enjoying them - I immediately borrowed book 3 on hoopla as soon as book 1 ended. They're sweet and adorable with no ridiculous third act break up (as of now). Everyone communicates easily and falls in love. I love, well, love! I extra love when a man falls first and just shows his girl how much he loves and respects her.
Usually, I am a dark romance, horror, literary book kinda gal, but The Cocky Kingman series has me hooked and I can't get enough of these funny, cheesy romances. And, Luke (the chicken) didn't annoy me in the way that most animals in books do. I know this whole series there is always an animal involved, so maybe this is growth and I'm making peace with it.
