could’ve been shorter. this is my first penelope douglas book and i started the series mainly for damon torrance’s book. but ig i’m disappointed in this one because
1) i don’t get why people go crazy for these vindictive college boys.
2) damon, i want to like you and you’re the main reason i started this series, but why tf you acting like a fucking rabid dog
3) the fmc has a mentality of a little kid with personality issues. one time she’d be like “why does he hate me” and then “oh fuck him i don’t want to play for his game anymore” and then “can’t he just love me back please” the various times she can’t even sense danger alone is concerning
4) the mmc has chronic communication issues. next time learn to fix your shit without your friends help dude. mf for real cannot talk with the fmc without manhandling her
5) again, i still don’t get the four horsemen trend. i thought it’d be like royal elite’s four horsemen and i was SO excited. disappointing but i’ll continue the book for damon’s sake. let’s hope he fucking grows and stop acting like a silly big ohsointimidating bitch

read this in one sitting omg !!! less than 24 hours ago i told myself “dark romance has been boring af lately” but again, it’s me who didn’t find a great dark romance sooner! hd carlton has always been a favorite dark romance author of mine. at first i confused molly with sibby lol and was a bit surprised that it’s a novella. however, as much as i wish it was longer, it didn’t disappoint at all! they mcs were SO hot they rivaled zadeline, and at one point i couldn’t stop underlining the mmc’s lines, i swear if he ever tells me to kms i’d do it. i hope that this isn’t the end and we get to see more of molly and cage AND ZADELINE

i usually love forbidden romance but this feels a lot like cheating LOL. i literally couldn’t stand the immature miscommunications & did not feel the chemistry between cora and dean at all. yes, i saw it gross that cora fucked her sister’s fiancé, but i also got the vibes that these two would be better as siblings, which makes everything worse. considering their shared experience in that basement, maybe i could’ve tolerated when dean said “i was soul-searching in there” but the way he broke it off with cora’s sister without her saying anything about it was messed up ??? as a dark romance reader, he definitely wasn’t the kind of dark romance guy i’d even consider. i couldn’t help thinking “in here, we normalize cheating!” because if i were cora’s sister i would destroy her tbh. imagine being with someone for 15 years just for her sister to take away that someone, plus the revelation that they deep down always have some sort of connection WHEN YOU WERE TOGETHER. dean be like “the only person i’ve been with is your sister… before you” FUCKING GROSS STOP IT. of course in the end cora’s sister find her person and got married but i still couldn’t fathom how she ever forgave her sister, because this forbidden romance should’ve kept forbidden.

nah tf this was supposed to be a dark college romance but the characters acted like middle schoolers??? the male characters were assholes with no personalities other than their dick egos. the fmc was naive. both the female and male characters kept saying stuff like “i’m not like other girls/guys” when they were no special. i didn’t see what’s the point of this book—no plot, no character development, no porn. just frat guys wanting to stake a claim for a girl’s virginity and apparently it’s the only worthy thing from that girl? even the 10 year old wattpad girlie me in the 2010s used to write better and more convincing story with A TRACE of plot than this. as a dark romance reader, this isn’t a dark romance. it’s a middle school level romance with characters that just hit puberty a week ago.

why’s the girl kinda stupid af tho like she knows danger but still walks straight to it….. and i’m not talking about the couple’s kinks. plus i’ve read some dark romance “assholes” and even swooned over them but i really can’t feel the spark between the couple???

also for the most part of the book it feels like there’s no plot until it’s on 75% and then everything feels rushed af like they can’t decide whether to make it dark porn with or without plot
