some kids do drugs, stome kids start fires; i embroider in the dead of night for the attention of strangers."
AHHHHH this book was perfect. it felt like i was listening to a close friend talk about his life as it is, not exaggrating neither playing down important and real stuff. while it it is a fun book about cosplay; it also tackes so many important issues such as homophobia, parental disapproval and mental health in a very real way. the characters were relateable and three dimensional. i laughed, cried, got excited, panicked, got hurt and smiled with the characters while reading.

"There is no good word for the opposite of lonesome.
One might be tempted to suggest togetherness or contentment , but the fact that these two other words bear definitions unrelated to each other perfectly displays why lonesome cannot be properly mirrored. It does not mean solitude, nor alone, nor lonely, although lonesome can contain all of those words in itself.
Lonesome means a state of being apart. Of being other. Alone-some."
after 3 books of relating to adam parrish, this was the quote that broke me. for a book thats supposed to be ya adventure, it sure does get philosophical. these in book character analysis/reflections add even more depth to every one of them and make them even more relateable. just like adam; im not lonely, just lonesome.
this book was by far the most emotional in the series by far, feeling like a slap across my face after the dream thieves' action packed summery vibes. the back to back tragedies come so sudden that i felt like i was in the book, living it through with the characters. i am genuinely scared of reading the series finale because if the third book is this heartbreaking i cant even think what lays ahead.
protip: the blue lily song that gets "sung" multiple times is played at the end of the last chapter of the audiobook (which is available on spotify).

"dying is a boring side effect."
this book was even better than the first one. i love how the characters keep getting more complicated. we got to see ronans sweeter side and i couldnt love him more. i think adam acting slightly shitty was accurate representation of his mental state and made me self-reflect because i related to him so much in the first book(still do but i would say im more a mix of ronan, him and blue). kavinsky thirsting over ronan was so funny because i know how much ronan held back cause he knew kavinsky is a scumbag of a person. noah and blues kissing scene made me cry. also im kind of in love with blue.
