ARC Review

“If I’d died, I’d made my way into hell—because I was still in fucking Faerie.”

This was an unexpectedly fun read. Auralie has been told stories of Faerie her entire childhood, but she believed they were just that. Stories. Except that the Faerie and the monsters that live in that world actually exist, and she finds that out firsthand when a monster attacks her. Luckily, she’s saved in the nick of time by a Faerie named Wren who informs her that these monsters won’t stop looking for her. Determined to find out more about her past and to protect her family, Auralie decides to go with Wren back to Faerie to get some answers. And that’s about as much as I can say without going into spoiler territory.

My favorite part of this book was definitely the main characters. The Faerie have a certain way of speaking that throws not only Auralie for a loop but the reader too. There were many things said that I feel like I need to go back and reread, since I missed some loopholes the first time around. Wren is constantly making sarcastic comments and is extremely quick witted, but Auralie is well equipped to retort back appropriately.

“Not to pierce the illusion of chivalry,” he said, throwing me a brief look over his shoulder as he speared his sword through the chest of another beast, “but you’re welcome to participate.”

“Take as much as you need,” I whispered, brushing my lips across his skin as I moved my mouth to his ear. “Because when you wake up, I am going to fucking kill you.”

My only criticism with this book was the pacing. I feel like it started off very high paced and then as soon as Wren and Auralie got to Faerie, it slowed considerably. It does pick up again, but a few chapters just didn’t hold my attention as much as the beginning and ending did. All that being said, I’m still intrigued to see what happens next. The ending definitely leaves us on a cliffhanger not only by what actually happens but also by what we’ve discovered about Auralie.

“I knew this would happen,” he murmured, beginning to slur as his eyes fought to slam shut again. “I’m so in love with you, it’s made me sick.”

I’m not even sure how I got on Loren Little’s ARC team, but I’m happy I was picked. I’m more than happy to review the next book in the series ;)

I think the last books of the spin off  weren’t necessary, and all the character development we got in the first trilogy went out the window, which is unfortunate. All of the new plot lines felt like a stretch since it wasn’t even implied in the original trilogy. Overall, I felt the additions were lackluster and wish it would’ve remained a trilogy as it was meant to originally.
