Significance by Shelly Crane

“You don’t love people for what they can give you. You don’t love them because of what they do for you or how good you make them look. Love is blind, love does not boast, love is not vain.”
I've heard of this book for awhile now, so I figured I'd give it a go. And I was not disappointed. This book is definitely different for a paranormal series but in a good way.
“I saw something in you that I couldn't live without. I chose you, inside of me, and you chose me. It's not one sided, it only works when both people choose the other. You are perfect for me in every way.”
Significance starts off where we meet Maggie. Maggie's life has been hard for the past year. Her mother up and left for no reason, her father is completely out of it and depressed from her mother's departure, her boyfriend of 3 years dumps her, and her only brother is in New York. Life just sucks.

So Maggie wants to get away from it all. She barely graduates at 17, finishing a year early. Her father doesn't even seem to care that she graduated, and she tries to escape by agreeing to go out with Kyle, her friend that has had a crush on her since forever. But when walking Maggie literally saves a boy from getting hit by a car. Caleb is attractive, sweet, and intriguing. Everything changes for Maggie when she touches him and sparks literally fly. Maggie soon finds out she imprinted with Caleb.

This means that her and Caleb are soulmates, I mean Caleb can even feel her heartbeat in his chest. It's pretty intense. Maggie is slowly brought into the world of Aces and their powers. But not everyone is happy about their imprint and this world she's exposed to is more evil then she thought.
The characters are likable in this book. Maggie is trying her best to piece her life back together by herself. She gets better as the book goes on though. Caleb. Oh where do I start with him?

Yep, that's where I'll start. I loved him! He's so...so..PERFECT! Yes, that's the word. I need a Caleb. Then we have Kyle. I felt bad for him in the beginning but then he started to annoy me. I know he liked Maggie but he needs to get over it.

And then there was her dad, that annoyed me so much at first. He continued to annoy me when he started to act like a father again. Hello! You haven't been a father for a year and now he acts all high and mighty. It was aggravating. Then we saw some minor characters like Jen, Bish, and Maria. I loved Maria! She was so adorable and is the best kid character I have read in any book. And of course we have the enemies, the Watson clan. Grrrrr, I don't like them.
This book was full of action, suspense, and loads of romance. The plot develops well and the enemies and their plans are written well. It all makes sense and you are left with some questions at the end of the book. All in all, if you're looking for a good, different paranormal series, this is the one. It's pretty good and I will definitely pick up the next book.

I LOVED THIS BOOK!!!!!! This has to be one of the best YA books I've read in a while.
This book has POV'S from both of our main protagonists, Day and June. The book starts off by introducing the reader to the setting. The western part of the United States is now called the Republic and it is at war with its neighbors. In the Republic there are the elite and the poor. June is a 15 year old girl born into a wealthy family. Day on the other hand is a 15 year old boy born in the slums. June is on her way to being the Republic's best solider while Day is the Republic's most wanted criminal. These two unlikely people cross paths when June's brother is murdered and Day is the prime suspect. June embarks on a mission to avenge her brother while Day struggles to keep his family safe and alive. But soon June and Day realize the truth that really brought them together and the secrets that were kept hidden from both of them.
I felt like the characters were sketched out very well. We have June who is extremely loyal to the Republic because that's all she has ever known. She is smart and cunning, which works to her advantage. She knows what she wants and how to get it as well. Day was another good character. He is also very smart and clever which is how he has never gotten caught for his crimes. He is rebellious and is not afraid to speak his mind. I wasn't expecting a great romance when I saw the character's personalities. They were so different and it didn't seem like they would work or be believeable. But, boy was I wrong. The chemistry between Day and June is interesting and I can't wait to see what the other books have in store for them.
All in all this book had nonstop actiton, romance (that's building up and is interesting), and twists and turns thrown at you the whole way. When I finished reading this book I asked myself why I hadn't read this sooner. Well, if you look at my to-read list it has 200 book and counting. It seems like I add more books on it everyday, so I just recently got around to this one. But, I highly recommend this one and can't wait to start the next one. (:

A beautiful story of two children in foster care that lose touch, but get a second chance.
"I'm going to kiss you now, Evie, and when I do, it's going to mean that you're mine. I don't care how far away from each other we are. You. Are. Mine. I'll wait for you. And I want you to wait for me. Promise me you won't let anyone else touch you. Promise me you'll save yourself for me."
Evie and Leo met in the foster care system and became best friends. As they grew up they began to fall in love but their happily ever after isn't as easy as they planned. Leo gets adopted unexpectedly, and leaves Evie when he moves with his new family. He promises that he'll come back to her when she turns eighteen, but never does. Now, it's been eight years and Evie is satisfied with her life. Although, a strange man (Jack) appears, claiming to know Leo and tells her that Leo passed away. While spending more time with Jack, she begins to fall for him. But Jack is keeping secrets that could ruin their relationship forever.
"We dreamed together, we planned a life together. We were so young, but we were so sure."
Evie is such a strong character and I applaud her for being as strong as she was. She lost her best friend when she was fourteen. Therefore, she waited and waited and waited. But, he never came. She wept but then stood on her two feet and moved on. She's satisified with the simple things in life and doesn't need a lot to be happy. She appreciates everything and is a beautiful young woman inside and out. Jack was the hero of this story. He holds more secrets than normal and isn't really open about himself. Although you question him a lot, you can't help but to fall for him. He's so sweet and wants Evie to be happy. And I absolutely adored the flashbacks with Leo. He was so sweet!
"Why are you looking at me?" I hiss at him, my cheeks turning hot, filled with shame for the exchange he just heard.
He just keeps looking at me for a moment, and then he shrugs. "Because I like your face," he says, but now a corner of his mouth is quirking up in a half smile."

"And the thing about falling in love is that no matter where you are when it happens, you can't help but to color those moments with beauty, even if you're in a location of ugliness. He made what would have been a place of nightmares into a place to dream."
This story was SO good. It was so different than what I usually read and I was not disappointed. It was a lovely story about second chances. All in all this was a great romance to read that I absolutely recommend to anyone! 5/5 stars.

Spoiler
I did however, know that Jack was Leo a good 20% into the book, even though it isn't revealed until later. But that reveal scene was INCREDIBLE! It had so many emotions.

“Nothing in this world is stronger than love. It should always be enough. No matter what.”
This. Book.

*takes deep breath* was incredible!!!
We start off by meeting Jasmine, or Jas, or heroine. Jasmine is a gargoyle Warden. Yes, you read that correctly. Gargoyle. Jasmine is tired of living her life like a bird trapped in a cage and she hasn't been the same since her best friend/crush, Dez, left 3 years prior to the story. So how does Jasmine react to Dez coming back?

So, Jasmine acts like anyone else would. Her emotions are all over the place. But now not only is Dez back but he's claiming her. In the gargoyle world a male claims a female, pretty much asking her to spend the rest of her life with him. Jasmine has seven days to reply to Dez whether she's in or out. But with conflicting emotions of anger and love, Jas decides to make her seven days worthwhile. She makes a deal with Dez that she will think of his request if he takes her to fulfill some of her conditions; such as him taking her to New York, learning to drive, and even skinny dipping. And as the synopsis says Dez has seven days to win her heart or shatter it all over again.
Words cannot express how much I adored this book. This is the prequel to White Hot Kiss that comes out in 2014. Our main characters are incredible as well. Jasmine is a head-strong character that longs for freedom. She's adventurous and independent but does not wear her heart on her sleeve. In fact she has kept it protected so it won't be shattered again. And then we have Dez. 'Please excuse me while I swoon' *ahem* Anyways, Dez was an awesome love interest that has his own secrets. He won't tell Jasmine why he left but he never stops showing her how much he loves her and how he never stopped loving her. He was just amazing. We also got a sneak peak at our main characters from White Hot Kiss, and let me tell ya, they're interesting.
All in all this was a great prequel that has got me pumped up for the main story. It's also a unique and interesting concept that only JLA gives justice to. Also, JLA has confirmed that Jasmine and Dez will be making appearances in the White Hot Kiss trilogy so that makes me a happy camper. If you want to read a new series that's different and bound to make you hooked read Bitter Sweet Love. (Or all of Jennifer's other series since, you know, they're just as addicting.)
