a great book with a great message. truly fucked up contents that literally had me slack-jawed at times. i loved that the message is don't let the fucking racists win and essentially there is power in you and power in blackness. however, i felt like the writing style was juvenile and lacking at times which is why it's not 5 stars. that doesn't stop the book from being a compelling and slight heartbreaking read though
made me cry. i rarely find books where i'm so similar to the characters, but felix and i were both queer, poc, trans (in the umbrella sense) teens and i felt so seen in him. also the climax of the story happening at pride, and the love the author clearly had for the LGBTQ community was so heartwarming and also bittersweet as a young queer person who's never been to pride however i felt like the subplot with damien wasn't fully fleshed out and it felt unfinished, which is why it's not 5 stars
