i wasn’t expecting to love this book as much as i did. i bought goodbye, vitamin off someone on instagram a year ago and decided to give it a try. it dealt with the main character going back home to help around the house as her middle aged father was slowly losing memory due to dementia. the book is based out of upland, ca which is just a city away from me. it felt deeply personal and heartfelt. personal because the proximity thing, i felt similar to ruth and her mother, and recently i have been thinking about life and it’s preciousness and all the old people in my life losing their memory (hasn’t happened yet but it might). i laughed and cried and laughed and then silently let tears out as i read on because the book was beautiful in its imagery and details rachel khong shared with us the readers.
