(Spoilers) I read this book in a little over a 24 hour period. It was one of the best horror books I’ve read in a very long time. The story progression had me expecting a bad ending up until the very end. Abitha is loveable and flawed but full of passion. Samson is surprisingly equally the same.

Second book in the Mayfair Trilogy. Less captivating than the first book but still interesting. You see Lasher as less of a haunting figure and more of a vulnerable confused child in this one and it makes you feel sorry for him. I was bothered by everyone’s blind acceptance of Mona and Michael. It didn’t seem consistent.

It’s like reading a history book on the Mayfair family. Anne Rice put in as much detail as she could when describing their lives going back hundreds of years. The characters are lovable in a strange way because they are all equally very flawed and corrupt by their past and their ancestry.
