Beneath Black Sails by Clare Sager

Beneath Black Sails begins with Lady Vice, years later after the first encounter from Across Dark Seas. She’s still part of the same crew when we first met her on Across Dark Seas but the change she went through from the prequel to the first book is so big. She’s got now a reputation that would make everyone jealous, and on top of that, she also got a pirate hunter on her heels. She’s totally changed, her character growth from the prequel to this book is unbelievable. She’s confident, strong and for sure doesn’t care what people think about her, she’s finally her true self, the same self she always longed to be but was never allowed to.
At first, I didn’t know what to expect from a pirate story, since I’ve never read one before, but this has taken me by surprise. You have plenty of elements in the story that weaves together so effortlessly, you have pirates, hunter pirates, fae-touched, fae-blooded, and a world full of adventure that awaits to be explored. The story since its a pirate story contains a lot of wording about ships and pirates and having English as the second language, it did make my reading a little bit tricky, but also very interesting because you get so much information about the ships and how they work and the world-building makes your imagination go like crazy.
The story is very intricate and so full of twists and moments that will leave you speechless. The relationship between Knigh and Vice is a bittersweet enemy to lovers with a dash of forbidden love, the sexual tension between them is such a bliss, and their sensual moment is very, very steamy. I liked the fact they are so opposite but at the same time, they’re so alike which makes their “relationship” even more amazing. When Knigh discovered the past connection between them that was such a breaking moment because everything changed and if his actions in the past were not so noble, what he did next for her was really, really beautiful.
Another thing I loved about this story was the body positivity, Vice thought bodies are just bodies and everyone’s body is beautiful and I so loved that part, because even tho Knigh was described as being very hot she never looked at him like a piece of meat ready to be grabbed, but saw him beautiful and didn’t understood why females never said that more often to the men. I really loved that. Also, we get such an amazing cat as a character, Barnacle is like my favorite pet from this story and I hope it will show up in the next books because Barnacle is more than a cat!

Against Dark Tides by Clare Sager

The 2nd book begins right where the last one ended – with Knigh and Vice on the run after he rescued her. They’re still in danger even miles away and the tension between them doesn’t seem to go down. On their way to Nassau they need to play pretend they’re in love and a couple so no one can suspect they’re actually on the run, but things don’t go so well.
Even tho they’re supposed to stay away from each other, they end up in a very intimate moment – till Vice reminds herself that he betrayed her. You can see her internal struggle and how closed she is towards her own feelings and even if both are hurting she really enjoys turning that knife into his own pain.
This time I wasn’t a big fan of Vice, more than half of the book I felt like she was acting like a brat like no one understood what she’s gone through and how betrayed she’s feeling – which everyone did understand and sympathized with her, but she still acted very brattily which I ended up hating her for it. She was so revengeful toward Knigh even when she saw him conflicted with his own pain and his own regrets she loved twisting that knife just so she doesn’t deal with the fact – that she was as guilty as he was on everything that happened. I wasn’t fond of her, because throughout the story till she ends up in a big mess, she keeps thinking highly of herself and acts like no one can get the job right and she’s the only person she needs to rely on – which is not true, and I loved the life story Perry offered to her!
This time I actually loved Perry, while she’s a little bit the shy character if I can say so, she actually stepped up this time and showed us another side of her and I so loved how mature and how straightforward she was.
I also loved Knigh – he legit gave everything up to save Vice without thinking twice. Indeed, he betrayed her BAD, and almost got her killed, but he did so many things in return so he can redeem himself but he didn’t even want that, he only wanted to fix the wrong he did. I loved that eventually he just exploded and said what he was in his mind – that moment was a really big moment for him because he has endured so many things from Vice and eventually he finally said what he actually felt about the whole situation.
And one of the sweetest things ever is when Barnacle had her babies – apparently, the cat got pregnant and she had some babies. Which brought me so many amazing memories when I was taking care of my cats during their pregnancy times. I so loved that scene – it was like a tiny movie in my mind, Barnacle and her babies snuggling together.
I’m really loving this pirate series, and I can’t wait to see where this story takes us. I can’t say the book contained any triggers – except perhaps for the moments when Vice was a prisoner for Mercia, he did seem horrible and he did treat her horrible, but the scenes weren’t very detailed to trigger anything for me tho. The ending of the series leaves space for a lot of curiosity on my part and I’m really excited to see what’s next for us from the author.

The Curse and the Prince by Day Leitao
5.0
◦ I've received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review ◦
Everything went wrong at the Royal Games. Zora won the games, but now she and Griffin are on the run. A cursed prince, a troubled brother, and a mysterious cup with the power to doom them all.
The 2nd book picks right up where the 1st one ended, and if you need a quick refresh this book has a quick summary of events from the 1st book at the end, perfect to know where you left it. The mystery and the new characters give this book a different feel. Our Zora is still sassy and a powerful heroine and doesn’t back down from anything.
I can definitely say I’ve had a blast reading this book. The way the 1st book ended really made me curious how or what’s going to happen in the 2nd book and it didn’t disappoint. After winning the Royal Games, instead of being a joyful event, Zora and Griffin are on the run. Griffin is cursed with a deadly curse, his brother for some reason is troubled and wants him dead and his other brother got a strange alliance with an impostor that pretends to be someone else. There’s so much mystery involving everyone, plenty of questions unanswered yet, most likely we’ll get them answered on the 3rd book which of course I can’t wait to see it released!
We’ve finally got the romance I’ve been waiting for – between Zora and Griffin. I loved their honesty after plenty of lies they told each other and hold for themselves and even tho they had ups and downs along with the 1st book and the 2nd one they worked their issues, spoke truthfully about what they were hiding making their relationship develop and grow along the pages. Their sweet talks about the future and life really warms my heart, I could feel her feelings and love for Griffin and how slowly but surely they were falling in love and their tender moments were the perfect touch for the book.
I love the way Day is writing her books, there’s no “wondering” moment, there is always something explained from the way the life in Dark Valley was to the family of Griffin – unless she doesn’t want you to know that thing yet, then she leaves a trail of mystery behind luring you deeper between the pages of her books, which of course makes you more addicted.
The book got a perfect mix of enemies to lovers, romantic fantasy, witty banter, adventure and a big dose of magic to make you believe in it again!

The Dawn and the Prince by Day Leitao
5.0
◦ I've received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review ◦
The Dawn and the Prince is the last book on this trilogy and as sad as I am to see it coming to an end, I love the fact I got the chance to read all 3 books till the end.
The last book on this trilogy has been a full-blown adventure. I loved the fact we got to see Riadne even better along the way. She has changed SO much during this book - if at the beginning I thought she's kind of a crazy one, she actually showed how big-hearted she is and how hard she fell in love with Larzen and their relationship is crazy but such a romantic one.
This time the book also had darker tones along the way, with Zora, Larzen, and Riadne ending up on Rock Island the events happening on there can be triggering for some people if you don't like reading about beheading immortal beings (beasts), and some of the things they've discovered there really made me cringe because the young girls living in there and aspiring on a better life were so oblivious of the horrors the masters were doing there - everyone was oblivious this place even existed. As you already know I do love a book that contains some darker tones too and for me the darker tones were right on point.
I so loved, loved the encounter with Zora and Griffin - they've been way too long separated and their relationship has grown a lot from the beginning and I think they're my favorite couple. This book is really an amazing read if you love sorcery and swords, a good magical system, a young, naive but strong and powerful girl who has been fighting since childhood, and some dark fantasy peppered between the pages!

Inker and Crown by Megan O'Russell
5.0
◦ I've received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review ◦
Adrial Ayres one of the persons “collected” by the Lord Karron has worked the hardest to find his scrap of glory in Ilbrea – the magnificent country that offers fame to those brave enough to seize their place among the Guilds. The Karron “clan” is made from: Adrial the scribe, Allora the daughter of Lord Karron, Kai the sailor, Niko, and Mara the map makers, and Tham the soldier and each one of them has a crucial role in Inker and Crown.
Inker and Crown the 1st book from “Guilds of Ilbrea” lets us explore the world of Ilbrea and the life behind the Guilds. In “Ena of Ilbrea” series we were introduced to the Ilbrea city and the horrors the Guilds have done all around Ilara and other cities, but now, we get to know the real truth behind the Guilds and who controls who.
I love the way Megan writes her stories, they always feel so real, so raw and so powerful that have a very big impact on the reader. The story did develop slowly which felt perfect because in Inker and Crown we get to know the life behind the Guilds and the life in Ilbrea and I felt like these things need time to develop and you can’t rush them. Of course, there are also more fast-paced moments where things develop quicker but the balance between slow and fast is just perfect.
The whole setting of the story gives you such a strange feeling as if this world is actually real as if all the characters are actually real somewhere on this planet and they live this type of life. The setting is of course not set into our world but in an imaginary world, but the world and the way their life is described feels so real as if you’re living between the pages right into their world.
The story is being told from different perspectives from the people in the “Karron” clan, each one of them takes you through the events that are shaping their life as you keep on reading. For me, all the events that happened in the book weren’t easily predictable, if in one moment things were good and peaceful in the next moment things started to turn badly.
I liked the fact you get to know each character involved in the story, and I liked seeing Ena again, she’s just the same, fierce, powerful, and tries to live through the Guilds while at the same time works on bringing them down one way or another. As before or so far, Ena’s the character I really like, I don’t expect a happy ending for her, I don’t think these series are going to have any type of happy ending, to be honest, because they’re way too complicated, way too real and just as in life, not everyone gets a happy ending, sometimes you just get what’s gonna come and that’s it, but nonetheless Inker and Crown gives you a much-waited insight into the life of Guilds and how things aren’t what they seem and the people who have the most power aren’t the ones called royal.

The Awakening by Melissa A. Craven
4.0
◦ I've received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review ◦
If at first, the book gave me a hard time because of the new wordings and the fast-paced, towards the end everything clicked with me and things have changed!
I'm giving 4 stars because the book from the beginning till almost half was very fast-paced. It was hard to keep track of where, when, and who - so many things have happened and at times I found myself lost on what's actually happening.
Except for the fast-paced, the book is amazing, the action, the characters, the power, the new world that opened for me IT IS MIND-BLOWING! I'm loving "Red" she's such a badass, something that we all should learn from. Indeed, in this book each female and male character has an equal, no one is less powerful or less smart or beautiful. Each one of them found themselves an equal and the balance between it is something that we should have in the everyday life.
The ending of the book really left me heartbroken, I'm really longing for the next books to read and find out what's happening with Alexis and Aidan are they complements? Are they not? Are they gonna be together or not? Will they find Quinn again? SO MANY QUESTIONS! This is the ending I'm talking about, a book that really leaves you hanging with so many questions that you could write a book about them.
I'm a sucker for the "loveship" between Alexis and Aidan, it's so pure, so teenager'ish so childish and so, so. so beautiful and I so want them to be together. When I've read about their kiss, my whole body went into a butterfly state like I was there having that kiss. The book is totally amazing and seeing finally a girl who's powerful, is equal to a man, and got a big mouth and lots of sarcasm that's something different.
One of my fave quotes from the book is: "Hey, you love him. It's kinda hard to deny it since I have a half-crush on him myself, thanks to our shared brain" & "You know, I find it totally awesome to realize your boy Vince is a great kisser. Can't get enough of that. Always wondered what kissing a dude might be like" <- this cracked me out in the midnight of the night, I started laughing like a lunatic.

A Trial of Sorcerers by Elise Kova
5.0
◦ I've received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review ◦
A trial of sorceress is a story about Eira - an 18yo girl with ice in her veins and fire in her heart. She's always been in the shadows of her brother, guarded and watched and carefully managed so the incident from 3 years ago when she froze half the tower and a person died - to never repeat again.
Struggling with her everyday life, with the voices she hears - Eira sees an opportunity to prove herself during the Tournament of Five Kingdoms, a trial of sorceress where the best from 4 groups: Windwalkers; Firebearers; Groundbreakers, and Watterunners need to prove their skills and 1 of each nation gets to go to Meru and compete further.
While she is eager to prove herself and show that she is capable of finishing the trials she is also facing a lot of blockages because everyone she loves is against it. Her parents, her brother, her uncle tells her to drop from the Trials and let her brother shine, he deserves that - but no one thinks about what she wants, or what she deserves, so she proves to them how capable she is and does the opposite of their advice.
I can say I got a little bit affected by the way Eira was seen by her family. No doubt they loved her, but I felt like they treated her like an outcast - the girl who murdered someone following her everywhere. 3 years ago, she declared her feelings for the first time to Adam the guy she fell in love with, just for him to mock and play a trap on her. That shattered her, broken her heart and trust, and made her wish to never feel again anything and so in her sorrow, she lost control of her power and froze half of the tower and someone has passed away because of it. But what everyone forgets to look at is how hurt she was on that night, everyone was focused on the accident and NOT on her which really made me question how much they actually loved her.
Her life takes a complicated turn during the Trials, she finds out deep secrets her family has been hiding. Her brother turns against her because she won’t back down from the trials and all she’s left is an odd alliance with the Elfin Ambassador of Meru, her best friend Alyss, and the strange guard of the Elfin’s Ambassador – Deneya who has her own agenda, or so it seems.
I can’t give all the deeds about the book since it's a new release, but the story feels so complicated which makes it so appealing to me because I love complicated things. I love the books that gives you breadcrumbs and lures you in and then BAM you’re knocked in the head and you don’t know what’s happening anymore. I LIVE for these moments! The Elfin Ambassador is so sweet and gentle to her and he is giving you the feeling he is hiding something, that behind his friendliness and flirting he has other intentions, dark and cruel intentions. And oh my god, how right I was. I didn’t see that coming, I knew there is something weird with him, his secrets, him being so sneaky. He was exactly like a spider creating his web around her, blinding her, luring her in until he finished his job.
I don’t think there was something that I didn’t like to be honest. The book has been really amazing, the story, the plot twist everything I’ve enjoyed fully and I can’t wait for the next book!
What I wasn’t expected was the connection between her and Cullen (not the vampire tho). Even tho at first their relationship was a hate-hate relationship towards the end of the book their relationship changed, and everything they thought of each other has switched to 90 degrees and I can’t wait to see how their relationship will develop from now on because they legit gave me goosebumps whenever they were close to each other.
This is the 1st installment of “A Trial of Sorcerers” and the way the book ended makes me wait for the 2nd book with a lot of curiosity and excitement! There is so much more this story has to offer and I can’t wait to see the next adventure Eira, Alyss and Cullen are going into. This is a Sword & Sorcery and coming of age book and I’ve legit run through the pages but at the same time, I didn’t want it to end. Plenty of moments that make you hold your breath to not miss any single thing, the way things are described and told makes the story develop like a movie behind your eyes. An amazing story to stay up at night and read it.

Stolen Thorn Bride by Kenley Davidson

◦ I've received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review ◦
The story begins with a dying man from a breach into his spirit. His body is intact, but his spirit is fading away and nothing seems to be helping him. “The wound is to his spirit, and it weakens him – much as the loss of a soul-bound mate.” The story does offer explanations on how he ended up hurt and who caused this wound to him – a very dark past seems to be glowering every now and then over his castle with the wraiths lurking in the dark and causing havoc.
The story is being told from 2 different pov: Dechlan and Kasia’s – one an elf and one a human, two different lives but so many things in common. Kasia is young and a very hard working girl, raising her 3 brothers after being practically abandoned by her mother and father with a dark secret – she’s got magic, but magic isn’t being seen with good eyes in the village she lives in, so she tries to hide it! Dechlan a prince ruling his castle with an iron fist until the wraiths have broken his spirit and is fading away. I loved the fact Dechlan has never underestimated Kasia and how capable she can be, he even considered her worth of “Riene of the Northwatch” which for a girl like Kasia that title was big.
Their relationship even tho at the beginning started very rough and with a very twisted note, slowly things start to develop between them and their feelings were flooding the book – even tho none wanted to acknowledge their feelings and tried to deny them you still could feel the tension between the two.
I love the bond that formed between them – even tho their bond wasn’t supposed to be similar to a fae to fae bond - their bond actually was as true as it could be.
I don’t think I found a thing I didn’t love in this story, and if there would be a 2nd book from this story I’d read it in a heartbeat. I loved the romance side of it and the whole concept of the story, the difference between human land and fae land, and the old tales that were in fact true.
Stolen Thorn Bride is short and a fast-paced read with a dose of enough romance and the feelings and emotions you get from this book has made me gasp more than once. The story also brought me very close to crying towards the end because of a very soul-touching moment between Kasia and Dechlan when they needed to say goodbye. The story has a happy ending, romance, fae and is full of amazing moments.

The Dragon Kings Chronicles: Book 5 by Kimberly Loth

Getting caught into the weapon room, Liam is cornered. He needs to think now and fast before Isa will drag that sword through him.
The last book ended in hang cliff, this book started with hang cliff and it is amazing. I was really worried that Isa will eventually drag that sword through Liam – BUT Liam is smart, he told her the truth and a lie. The truth is he doesn’t feel safe in the castle without weapons on him so they make a compromise. He can carry a sword, this way the sword is open and he also protects himself.
If I was thinking the things couldn’t get even more complicated than this, I was so, so, so wrong. Throughout the book, someone attempts to Isa’s life by shooting an arrow but she’s saved by Liam who pushes her to the ground. And this is where things start to go crazy and crazier.
There’s an assassin in the castle and no one knows who it is and why they try to attempt to Isa’s life, and what’s worst is that only Liam, Grace, and Isa know about the incident outside of this circle everyone is a suspect.
I am a sucker for fast-paced books where you don’t have a moment to breathe because something else already happened. I love where the relationship between Ruby and Damon is going, the banter and friendship between Jude and Grace, and the crazy type of love between Isa and Liam. Liam is getting himself in trouble from book to book and it is such a funny thing to witness because he barely gets out from a crazy thing and ends on another one.
I hate and love the fact that I’m on book 5 and I still don’t know who the suspect is. I love the fact it leads you closer to the suspect and then on the next book pulls you away and I hate it because usually, I can sniff out the plot twist very quickly, but with this book, you don’t have that chance. You have to keep on reading and each book is such an amazing ride.

Oh wow, this episode has been haunting, scary, horrible, and breathtaking all in one. Grace has found out that Drew is actually her twin brother, and her dad – the same dad she thought dead, isn’t actually dead but the wizard behind all of the evil things happening. She is also regaining her suppressed memories from her father, finding out dark, deep secrets about her and her family and the big hate her parents had towards dragons, and the mission she was supposed to accomplish – killing Isa. The turn Grace’s story takes into this book has really left me in complete awe, because I’ve not thought about any of this outcome. And the fact she has become nothing of what her parents ever wanted is such a relief because her old her wasn’t very nice.
Damon and Ruby in America are fighting alongside the other dragons against Jens and the rebels – but no one is expecting the outcome from this fight and the reason behind it.
There are some triggers in the book – the killing of a family member and the way they died can be a trigger for people because is pretty graphic, and also the killing of infants.
This episode has been action-packed, heartbreaking, and tragic but really great to follow to get the long-deserved ending.
