The first 200 pages were slow but after that, the plot took off.

Boring. Felt very disconnected with the characters.

Alright I’m not gonna lie and say I was gonna give this a 1 star. But then I read the acknowledgements (like I always do) and sound that this book is basically supposed to be this bad.

The MC thought she was smart but wasn’t, had a mental illness and doesn’t take her medication and at the end of the book she needs she actually should start taking them, death surrounds her, she has a boyfriend.

Then the twist at the end I knew it was coming after the third chapter like, that’s just how these things go. A character I don’t want to spoil was very annoying and I understand her situation but yeesh.

Overall I am like 90% sure this whole thing is kind of like satire and supposed to be this ridiculous. If not, then whoops I guess I missed the point.

I am no longer rating poetry collections because this collection made me realize it is impossible to describe how “good” or “bad” poetry is. Throughout reading this collection, I had poems I liked and poems I not-so-liked. How am I supposed to rate that? It’s not the same as reading a book and having chapters you liked and chapters you not-so-liked. Idk I think I’m just going on a weird tangent.

The last poem, Crania Americana was definitely my favorite. I don’t know why, but this caught my full attention. I liked the other poems, too. They were lyrical but used a lot of big words that my tiny brain couldn’t comprehend. I know that’s a personal flaw, although I do love big words in poetry. Just not all the time I guess.

All in all, this collection is definitely a favorite now and I can’t wait to reread some of these poems.

I was very caught off guard by the topic changes in the middle of a poem. I’m not used to that style yet, though. I find it interesting. Sometimes I would find myself not reading the poem but just skimming it so I could get it over with. The writing was raw and I absolutely loved that, and I loved loved loved the water motif. I want to read this again when I am more used to subject change poetry.

All I want to say is I loved the revenant, it gave me Marc/Steven and Khonshu vibes (I just finished watching Moon Knight when I started to read this). I loved Artemisia so much because we are literally the same person.

Loved the ghosts coming in on each stop and telling Will about what happened to them.
