Really enjoyed this one. Didn't love all the characters but the general sort of mysterious vibes really carried me through the story. I'm not big on dark academia so I checked this one out with caution. Will def check out more from this author once they publish more.
Check out content/trigger warnings just in case tho.

Once again, beautiful writing, but I don't think these are enjoyable enough for me to continue reading the rest.

I like the idea of seeing/hearing Hades' side of things but I didn't enjoy his perspective as much. I will still read his along with Persephone's perspective stories tho since I still did overall enjoy it.

(read this before knowing the co-author served as part of the iof🀒)
Overall enjoyed this quite a bit, super quick read as well. Liked the main characters and how each of the girls grew in different ways. Liked the concept of two authors writing the different povs so you could really get different voices entirely in the story.
Would be willing to read more from one author (Jones) but not the other since the other is not someone I would want to support whatsoever. I wouldn't go out of my way to read from Jones tho unless she has stated that she supports Palestinians/is against the genocidal state that shall not be named.

A Short History of Trans Misogyny by Jules Gill-Peterson

A necessary read if you are like me who wants to be as inclusive as possible in your feminism but don't know much about the history of trans-misogyny and trans activists or trans women in general. The way trans women have been treated will piss you off (like the death of a Filipina at the hands of a u.s. military person who did NOT receive fair punishment) but their stories and voices are necessary to listen to and hear especially right now with the abundant, loud, dangerous, violent rhetoric being spewed over the past few years. We should all learn and grow and protect our trans sisters. No TERFs πŸ’―

Pretty good. I listened to the audiobook, and my main issue was the volume of the adult characters and the mc's friend compared to the mc. When talking, other characters were difficult to hear because for some reason the narrator made them talk too quietly compared to the mc. I couldn't hear what they said very clearly, but if I turned the volume up, the mc's dialogue would be too loud. I think the audiobook would be much better if the narrator spoke at the same volume for all the characters.
Otherwise, I enjoyed the book overall and liked the mc and the ending

I'm not big on romance books or books with sex scenes, but this was a surprisingly good one for me! The sex scenes weren't drawn out or cringey for me. And I love a good retelling/reimagining of myths/legends/folklore. Since Hades introduction, I kept thinking in my best Squidward voice "oh no he's hot" πŸ˜‚
Def am going to check the rest of the series out.

I really enjoyed this. It did get difficult at some points as someone who struggles with body dysmorphia and with some disordered eating but I still had a blast listening to the audiobook. Will def look out for more from this author.

There were some interesting parts in this but overall I don't think it was for me (or maybe I just didn't understand it?).
As a mixed race Asian American, I was hoping for more discourse on the mc's battle with having a mixed race identity, but that topic was very much a throwaway compared to what reviews and the little blurb led me to believe which was a letdown for me. The blurb also mentioned how it was a commentary on whiteness in Asian American communities which there was barely, if any, discussion of that either in the book. I don't think that should even be included as a main point in blurbs and reviews as there was so little about it that it could've easily been omitted and not changed the story like at all. I felt there was nothing in the story that would've made the mc's asianness or mixed race identity integral to the story, though I would've appreciated it if it was. Like there was no focus on the mom besides her death so it felt like his asianness was secondary which I guess may have been the point? I don't know.
I was also confused by a lot of it like it bounced around way too much and the insert of the show didn't do it for me either (I understand that it was the mc's coping mechanism tho). I understand that the story is supposed to be a bit disorienting so maybe I'm just not smart enough to have fully understood it.
I did listen to the audiobook, which the narrator did a phenomenal job, while following along with the ebook so maybe with the speed I had it it didn't allow me to fully understand many parts of it.
The book was mainly a discussion on grief and trauma set on a background of very light sci-fi.
The ending was also just okay. Not a terrible end since I understand that it is (SPOILER - closing the loop thus closing his grief/trauma that he suffered with the whole of the book) but it felt sort of rushed maybe? I dunno I wasn't fully satisfied with the end.
