It felt like it was too short to really go anywhere. I really enjoy Hinton's writing style so I had a good time reading this, but it could've had more meat to it. Didn't feel like a lot happened. It was more of a snapshot of this person's story than anything, and I think a longer story would've been justified here.

Did not finish book. Stopped at 53%.
I liked the concept, the setting, and characters, but I was insanely bored while reading this. Despite all the good it had going for it, I just wasn't clicking with it.

Kleinbaum took every bit of charm from the movie and crushed it, threw it in donkey poop and spat a big ol juicy glob of halitosis saliva right on top of it.

Eh, maybe that was a little bit of an exaggeration, but this book was rushed, poorly written, and aggressively uninspired. It felt like a mediocre screenplay. That is really not what you want to see in a novel. I really wouldn't be as insulted by this had I not seen the movie, but when you compare the two you can see one is significantly worse than the other (hmm I wonder which).
