Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire
2.0
It took me two whole weeks to finish this book. It was either because of my reading slump, or I just wasn't interested at all with the story. The problem with my reading Wicked was I had high expectations. I love fairytale retellings most especially if it's about the villain's past. I was expecting something like Marissa Meyer's TLC novella, Fairest. In that story, I pitied and loathed Levana (evil queen). I was so angry at her by the end of the book. Fairest didn't shy away from the evil that was supposed to be there. Everything that was happening just made me feel so much emotion and feeling. In Wicked, I never felt sorry nor angry at Elphaba. I read it without feeling any kinds of emotion at all towards the characters, minor or major. For me, being attached to the characters of the story is very important. If these characters don't make you love 'em, then you'll just go through the story numbly.
This could've been better.

To be honest, I never expected that I would love this book. The plot just seemed weird to me because there were androids and cyborgs and robots and i don't know I just found that weird lol. But it's a good thing my friends from twitter convinced me to read this book, so I did. And I did not regret reading this. The only regret I have is not reading this book sooner. I'm so ashamed I haven't read this book until now and I'm so mad at myself for thinking so lowly of this book before I even read it.
5/5 hands down, 5/5.
At first, when I heard that this was a futuristic retelling of the fairytale story Cinderella and Cinderella was a cyborg, I wasn't really interested. It didn't make me want to run to the nearest bookstore and buy this book immediately. I've heard about this book since last year and only now have my twitter friends convinced me to read this. I was so invested with this novel. I slept at 1:30 am just to finish this.
I am very happy that I read this book. It's incredible. I enjoyed reading it SO SO MUCH. AND IT'S JUST REALLY REALLY REALLYYYYY GOOD.
AND WHAT MAKES IT MORE GOOD WAS THAT I DIDN'T ACTUALLY EXPECT THAT I WOULD ENJOY AND LOVE THIS BOOK AS MUCH AS I DID.
I JUST REALLY REALLY LOVE THE STORY AND THE WORLD MARISSA MEYER HAS CREATED. GO PICK IT UP. NOW.
