I voluntarily reviewed a copy from the Rachel E. Carter YA Book Club on Goodreads.

Before anything, I just want to give a big shoutout to Yesenia Vargas for sending me copies of books from her Matters of the Heart series. Thank you so much! Really appreciate it.

To be honest, this story was kind of aggravating because of Katia's indecision between Brian and Adam. Especially since it was what comprises the story. 75 percent of the book, we read about how Katia doesn't know who she'll choose. It just became repetitive as we read further and it became more and more annoying.

The plot was a bit predictable. Some of the "twists" the story has didn't catch me by surprise
(except for that last part with Brian running off)
. And I'm pretty sure all of us knew who she was gonna end up with from the very start.

But some of the scenes were cute and adorable, so I guess that kinda makes up for it. And I love that part when Katia chases Brian
(although I wish it would've ended dramatically)
.

I pretty much have mixed feelings for this book because although the story was cute and somehow relatable, there were just a lot of flaws. If I'm going to start nitpicking this book, I'd come out with a lot of plot holes. Some things just didn't make sense, and I hate that it had to have a love triangle. It didn't really need that, but the author throws it in.

It was also lacking character development. But we can't expect everything about the characters to be resolved in just 200 pages, right? Especially with a plot that you can greatly expand into something more complicated. What really drew me into the story, though, was Brian's mysterious past. In my opinion, it was well thought of and well done. I can see the author going places with stories like this one. There's a need for improvement, but I'm sure that can be done as the author continues to write more.

I'm not certain if I want to read book 2 because I know it's heading in the love triangle direction, and I'm not really into that crap *insert laughing emoji*. But we'll see. I'd be interested to find out what happens next.

So plotwise, this book didn't blow me away. It was both whimsical and nonsensical but the story alone just didn't charm me. This is just a 2/5 stars for me.
I am going to dive deeper into the story and discover the hidden meanings. I might change my rating then.

FULL REVIEW TO COME.

SO disappointed with this book. there was just too much sydrian. don't get me wrong i LOVE sydrian i just feel like the book had too much of them that the plot just vanished into thin air. im so sad because the first three books were REALLY GOOD and this one was just ugh -.-
i would've given this 1/5 stars if it wasn't for the other half (and by other half i actually mean the last 20%) of this book so THANK GOD for that. i'm still gonna read the fifth book, i really hope that one's better.
