i think much of what she says about education in here is already standard in the university where i study, where most of my professors follow paulo freire's conceptions about teaching (being ourselves brazilians as he was) and so much of what was said were things i was already aware of and things that i already to try to put into my own practice as a teacher. but i imagine back when this book was published, education wasn't the way it is today, and, either way, this book is worth the reading for the way hooks looks at education.
ps. it is ironic that the professor who recommended this book to our class last semester is one of the few of my professors that doesn't seem to follow bell hooks' teachings lmao.

this book is just boring me. all the things i didn't like in the first book are worse here. you won't connect to the characters because they're all hollow. i'm just not gonna waste my time.

i had high expectations. that never quite works out, but... this book was good. enjoyable and easy to read. the fantasy elements were unique and kept me entertained. my biggest problem was that i couldn't connect to the characters. they felt all kinda hollow to me. but,
i love my protagonists evil,
and that is already enough reason to keep reading the series
