alexamidala's Reviews (235)

I initially planned on listing my favorite short stories in this review, but that list would look nearly identical to the contents page of this anthology. Each story dazzles in its own way. I look forward to rereading this collection in the near future.

I read this book back in middle school and decided to give it a reread when I found it while unpacking book boxes after a move. It's such a bizarre story, reminiscent of V.C. Andrew's Flowers in the Attic, but what makes it so phenomenal all these years later isn't the plot, but the way it's written. It's lyrical, haunting, and surreal. At times the shifting perspective can be a bit confusing, but the writing is still rich and beautiful nonetheless.
