This was definitely oriented towards professionals and had some information that felt repetitive, but overall was really solid and helped guide my anti-car perspective.

I am so conflicted about this book. It is only 20% thriller at the very beginning and very end, and most of the story is a coming-of-age narrative. I think the author really struggled to write women and perpetuated some pseudo-science (like the alpha-wolf narrative), but the family connections were so beautiful, it almost made me cry. Some of it was amazing, and some of it was not.

Goddess Complex had the infrastructure to be the perfect novel for me, but sadly fell a bit short (although I've raised my rating because of the discussion of the LFBC). The first half felt very cliche to me and the ending was definitely not as cathartic as I felt was necessary for the narrative. The strongest part of this novel was absolutely the humor; it had many laugh out loud scenes that I think anyone with a millennial or absurdist sense of humor would enjoy. A lot of people didn't like the switch in narration between the 2 halves, but I felt the abrupt change was actually a great way to make the reader as confused as the main character. I will keep my eye on future releases from this author.

Gendry-Kim has a fantastic voice that I hope more people will be drawn to. This graphic novel is an adaptation of a Korean Novel that I haven't read (and I had never heard of before this), but the author puts her own spin on it by including information and a beautifully unique framing device about the original novel's author. It was a touching story that felt reminiscent of the movie Past Lives. I highly recommend.

This collection is so full of honesty and vulnerability that I know it will have a lasting impact on me. Some of the poems are quite vulgar in a necessary way. It explores rape and other forms of sexual assault and harassment in a way that will sadly ring true for so many readers. The titular poem was the last in the collection and it was a perfect ending. The only struggles I have are with the "Instagram" style poems; I don't think they show the powerful voice of the author enough.

Thank you to Querencia Press for providing me with a free ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I love the unique format this poetry collection took, but I did have to look up a lot because I'm unfamiliar with Canadian culture.

When I was first reading through this graphic novel, I was very confused. By the time I reached the ending and saw the whole story as one print, I was in awe. It is a recreation of a classic story that I was previously not familiar with, but overall seemed like a somewhat average morality tale. What really made this stand out was the artist's interpretation and artwork.
inspiring

I was expecting more of a full memoir rather than a book of trite quotes. The parts where the author shared her divorce story were so enriching, I wish all of the book was that.
