The dynamics of queer relationship anxiety, the push and pull between the pressure to u-haul and the wish to play it cool were well played out, with very insightful narrations of Amy’s thoughts. I felt very seen by the smooth introduction of the non-binary character, and the way the privilege of the cis and white characters was brought up was both intense and a relief. Absolutely loved this book, it’s so refreshing to read a bright and thoughtful romcom about people like me.

This series was intense and amazing, everything I love about fantasy with lots of historic references that were clearly well-researched and added with care and precision. Multiple queer characters were treated with care and without shallow “queer suffering” plot lines- their loves and losses were treated with the same respect and reverence as straight loves and losses, by the author and by other characters.
As soon as a I finished the last book, I wanted to reread the whole series! Nothing has kept my attention and interest so fully in a long time. I would absolutely recommend this book to lovers of fantasy and magic, history and myth, chosen family and finding our own identities.

This Wicked Fate was an incredible mix of fantasy and mythology (treated as a historical fiction mystery in a way). Bri’s narrative was earnest and compelling, and watching her find the balance between bravery and leaning on a uniquely diverse chosen family was a coming-into-her-own story I’ll never forget. The deeper lines of love and loss, betrayal and forgiveness, hope in the face of the fates was intricately woven and heart-wrenching.
The depictions of pagan rituals and Hellenistic gods made real were thoughtful and intentional, and the development of queer relationships was artful and warm. Bayron is an amazing author and I will be reading everything she writes.
