things i’m thinking about after finishing the book:

1.
i was rooting for steven SO HARD in the beginning because he was so nice to her, but at the end of the book he becomes such a slimeball. it’s interesting tho bc at the beginning he’s portrayed as such a good guy, but by the end we realize how badly he sucks. that’s something i really liked about this book, is that we were kind of learning about ingrid while she was figuring herself out so we were on the journey together. so at the beginning, she only saw steven in a positive light, but by the end of the book she saw him for what he really was.

2. as a white girl, this was very much not my lived experience! so i definitley felt like i was learning about the asian american experience alongside ingrid, which really opened my eyes and made me think about what asian women have gone through in the united states. my favorite part of the book is the courtroom scene where it’s presented in a way where it pulls together everything ingrid has learned throughout the book. it reminded me of the way carmen maria machado wrote her memoir.

3. also the plot to this book is actually insane. not at ALL what i expected. i won’t spoil too much in case you, dear reader, still want to read the book. i’d recommend it on the plot alone.

4. i really enjoyed it, but i didnt fly through it like i read other books. i think its because this book made me think more than some of the other stuff ive been reading (lol) but i felt myself re reading a lot because i would get distracted or just need to think harder about it. idk sounds dumb but something i wanted to remember when i look back!

kind of a novel but i really liked this book and wanted to give it a thoughtful review!

Did not finish book. Stopped at 51%.
this book SUCKS compared to the others holy shit, there’s new information thrown at you
like how hades dad is alive?????? when did that happen????? and it was just presented as common knowledge???
plus i just hate the relationship between charon, orpheus, and eurydice like they have no chemistry. i had to DNF when charon was like “orpheus… u will paint eurydice” as her punishment for lying to him like good lord that is so fucking CORNYYYYYY like it’s obvious she’s running out of characters to have sex with each other. idk the buildup of these characters from other books had me excited and she ruined it almost immediately by having them rush into a relationship.
like they said i love you right away??????? no buildup??????
0/10 fuck this book!
