with all the controversy, I really wanted to give this book fair review. I went in unbiased and was hoping for a good book as I do with most. But honestly, nobody had to tell me that this wasn’t a good book for me to realize it.
The biggest issue I had was the world-building. It was possibly the most atrocious I have ever read and as someone that reads a lot, that’s really saying something. There’s hardly any explanation or back story before you’re just thrown into this huge setting. So not only do you know nothing about the games and curses, but you’re expected to care about these characters and their boring ass relationships that escalate within the first 40 pages? A lot of their quotes that I would usually enjoy came across cheesy because of how little I cared about the characters.
The plot was intriguing and had SO much potential but was just executed so poorly. We’re put in these really awesome moments but then once it’s over you’re back to being confused. It just felt like the author wasn’t clear enough on what was happening and expected us to read her mind or somehow magically take it out of the dialogue.
Although predictable, the ending actually had some really good plot twists. Although, after the first few big ones I felt like she just started making stuff up that had no correlation with the original plot. It was like she just wanted to shock you so bad that she was trying to make connections that made NO SENSE whatsoever. Everything in book felt unplanned and random.
Also, what the hell was the whole egg yolk thing??? Like that was possible the stupidest shit I ever heard. If I hear “yolk” or something being compared to “yolk” one more time I might just scream.
Overall, I do think people were bashing it a little too hard. It had redeeming moments but felt like so much relied on tropes and these super intense scenes that’ the inbetween was completely rushed, unclear, and aimless. It’s in no way the worst book I’ve ever read but it was definitely sucked ass.

idk i kept waiting for the story to pick up but it just never came. i usually love villainous characters but really didnt like any of these. you could definitely tell there were two authors writing this, the characters were very inconsistent. gavin def had a crush on alistar. plot and some other stuff was cool though
