I found this really interesting as a look at women's football, but (probably because I have just finished a history degree) it felt a little too cursory for me. still very fun/important/angering to read about the history of the game and a good light read after exams!
It's hard to rate a collection of stories that are so different. The best were immersive and unpredictable, and part of the joy of short stories is that they're so easy to read. My favourites were the opening and closing stories by Wendy Erksine and Laura-Blaise McDowell, both of which I think will stay with me for a long time. I also particularly enjoyed 'Detachment' by Gerard McKeown, 'The Longford Chronicle' by Daniel Hickey, and 'Rough Spain' by Catherine Talbot. My least favourites of the stories seemed to want to disturb the reader for the sake of it, something that isn't really appealing to me.
