I don’t think a single female character in the novel wasn’t sexualized, assaulted, or called a whore. The book was slow and at some points dragged. While the writing was beautiful, at some points if felt pretentious and convoluted. The last 200 pages of the book were fantastic, but I don’t know if I’d go through the other 600 to get to it again.

One thing to keep in mind while reading this is that a young girl wrote this privately to log her thoughts and experiances, and in no way is this meant to be a gripping novel with an extraordinary plot. Take it as it is. The reason i gave it such a high rating is because I have never read anything so personal and purely human either than this diary. The entries takes you through her tansformation from another young girl to a scared young woman being persecuted in a horrible moment of our history. It's important to read this and remember what was done in the past to honor those lost and avoid repeating this terrible event.
To Kill a Mockingbird captivated me from the first page. The story is beautifully written and drags you on an emotional journey regaurding the issues of racism, rape, and a multitude of others. This book justifies itself as a classic over and over again throughout the story and I believe everyone should read it at least once in their lifetime.
