The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
5.0
This book is one that I wish I would have picked up at a different time. Towards the start of the book, everything in the world was turning upside down and inside out - my brain, imagination, and heart couldn't get into it the way Morgenstern's writing deserves. But towards the middle of the book, I was able to appreciate The Night Circus for what it is: magic and mastery. Morgenstern has an uncanny ability to create worlds that feel incredibly realistic, even if they stretch to the furthest reaches of your imagination. I loved it and will revisit it again.
The City We Became by N.K. Jemisin
5.0
This book was... incredible. "A glorious fantasy" only begins to scratch the surface. N. K. Jemisin creates a realistic yet utterly otherworldly version of New York City - one where NYC comes alive in a way my imagination has never dared to think of. It is the kind of story that I needed right now - one that makes you question the world, yet also realize that sometimes our only source of power comes from banding together against the things that want to destroy us. If you're at all into science fiction or fantasy - ADD THIS TO YOUR READING LIST!
