God— this was so hard to read. Nothing here I disliked but not a lot of it I liked. It was too close to the world to be fiction but too far fetched to be news. It felt weird. It made me feel weird.

So fun! So cute! Like a little chick flick turned teenager-targeted book. I loved it! (at 14).

This book doesn’t have my favorite character from the movie— Wybie! I guess I should read books BEFORE watching the movies, but what can I say? This movie was a staple in my house. This is a good story and I enjoy this authors writing, but this is a children’s book and it seems scarier than a child might like. It’s definitely scarier than the movie portrays the story.

I’m starting to think I should re-read this. It’s a cult classic that everyone loves that I drugged through like mud. I despised every page in this book because I was forced to read it and write a report on it OVER SUMMER BREAK in high school. I don’t honestly think the book was as bad as I remember it, and I’d like to give it another shot. I just hated it when teachers made you read things that weren’t in your wheelhouse.

This didn’t even feel like a John Green book— in a good way. The Fault in Our Stars feels like it outshines the rest of his work and all his other characters are just versions of his characters from TFIOS. That feels like the case most of the time, but not in this one. Maybe it’s because he co-wrote with another author, but it’s different and I liked it a lot. I read this as a sophomore in high school and I remember really enjoying it.

Now THIS is a poetry book. I’m so tired of the 1 sentence poetic word vomit a lot of people publish nowadays. EVERYTHING IS ART and beauty is in the eye of the beholder— I get that. I feel that way too. For me though, beauty is this. Everything about this from the order of the poems, the illustrations, the repetitive use of words, the length of poems going in and out, it was beautiful. Not to mention I read this at exactly the right moment in my life. I needed all of this. Thank you, MHN.

I really enjoyed this book, but it's hard to read after seeing the cast for the movie. I can't unsee Chloe Grace Moretz, even though she's not what I imagined for the main character. This is one of the first books I read on my own in school. It got me into sci-fi, and I love the authors writing.

I thought this was going to be a lot of what it wasn't. I thought I could predict the ending, and that wasn't the case- even when it changed, and I thought I could predict the new ending. This was such a beautiful story about friendship, and honestly, I wish that it was longer. I wish I could've gotten a better look into the main friendship here. It's sad- not even close to what I initially predicted, but I really enjoyed these characters. My only complaint is that the sub-plot was this childhood best friendship, and I wish it would've been the romance. It felt like the main character should've been the friend, and not the real written main character. I guess the story wouldn't have worked as well that way, so it makes sense how it was written. The ending might not be what you think- it wasn't what I thought.
