The blurb for this book sounded really cute, so I was excited to jump in to it. I’m so sad that I didn’t like it. The author was new to me, and I’m not sure if it was her writing style or the narration, or maybe both, that just didn’t do it for me. There is a lot of telling rather than showing, and for so much to be going on, not a lot happened. If that makes sense. And, while I thought the narrator did a good job on the MMC’s Scottish accent, there was no real emotion or variation in tone. The characters sounded the same whether it was a happy, sad, or spicy scene. Honestly, I was bored. But on the bright side, this book checked off the letter X for my alphabet reading challenge!

This book is definitely more spice than plot, which I’m totally fine with, but there was so much potential for more here. There was a lot of family drama that was set up but ended up being brushed over.

I don’t discourage anyone from giving this book a try, but I will say that if I had it to do all over again, I would not go for the audiobook. There is audience for this book, as does have a lot of positive reviews; it just was not for me.
