When We Let Go by Rochelle B. Weinstein

Avery has a dark past that is fighting to come to light when her boyfriend proposes and after hesitation, maybe she’s been right to hide it. Finally facing home and her secrets, will it be too late to reconcile all the hurt she’s caused by hiding herself?
I cried, I laughed, emotions ran high. Weinstein does an amazing job at creating the complex family dynamics we all have. Pseudo step-children, former loves, relationships with your own self. This novel showcases how bland and hurt can hinder happiness even when we believe we’re protecting those we love. The depth of characters and love I had for each, grew with each chapter.

Left at the alter, Lauren is left to pick up the pieces. Her friends are all married, have children and are living picture perfect lives and Lauren is back into binge eating, avoiding conflict with her mother, and trying to accept her life hasn’t worked out the way she planned.
I enjoyed the novel and read through it fairly quickly. It was great watching Lauren finally learn to stick up for herself and fight for what she wants instead of taking the backseat to please others. I will say that in some parts the “woe is me and my life” vibe was a bit intense, almost in random portions and with her growth throughout, I thought some things weren’t as hardcore as I expected when she did stand up for herself. A fun read of a woman finally embracing what she wants in life and giving up on pleasing everyone else.

Beatrice Quinn isn’t your typical teenager, she’s brilliant and sticks to her routine while focusing only on getting accepted to Oxford. When her parents make a deal for Beatrice to attend theater camp for the summer to prove she can handle the big move, it may just end up being the one problem that gets in the way of her plan.
This book contains all of the heartache, awkwardness, and nostalgic aspects of growing up. Set with a diverse cast of characters and our lovable and awkward heroine, it’s the perfect mix for remembering your own journey of self-discovery and growing up. Focusing on the uncomfortable portions and how sometimes you get hurt but when it’s good, it’s so good. A beautiful coming of age tale that I would recommend for anyone to read
