Good, not great. I just didn’t find it super memorable. But it was an enjoyable read.

The story is cute. I loved all the characters. Some of the dialogue felt a little cheesy or just typical? I also found that there was a lot of internal monologues from the main characters. I do still want to continue in the series and I’m hoping the writing gets a little stronger as it goes on!

The first half of this book? 6 stars. Unlimited stars. The second half just felt like the plot was clunky. However, even with all of that I really loved the characters and how they communicated.

I think this will be my favorite book of the year. I loved Layne Fargo’s other book, they never learn. I was expecting more of a thriller like that. But this felt like a fast paced psychological study of a highly driven and focused figure skater and her skating partner/boyfriend/lover. Layne Fargo managed to make a “unlikable” woman so lovable. And even when I didn’t like her I still wanted her to win. Their relationship is beautiful, yet toxic, but you still are rooting for them. And the author takes these tiny moments or minuscule gestures and just makes them absolutely gut wrenching! I was expecting a different ending, but I think this was the perfect way to end the story.

I liked the authors commentary on food, society, women. It felt like it got her point across without being pandering or obvious.
