I LOVE Hamilton. Eliza Schuyler is truly my idol. Because of that, because I know who Eliza was and who Alexander was, this book was so difficult for me to read. I know it’s historical fiction but it just veered SO FAR from the real history that is well known that is became unrealistic.

I loved the discussion of the nuance of the relationship between mothers and daughters close to the end of the book.

We place them on pedestals and no one can possibly know how hard it is to be a mom and mothers can do no wrong. But mothers do irreparable damage to their daughters that they then carry on to their daughters and their daughters and their daughters until someone finally breaks the cycle. Good for her.

I am so shell-shocked by how much I loved this book. This has so easily become one of my favorite books. No book has so easily made me laugh, made me cry, and been so philosophical and intellectual all in one. I’m obsessed with this book. I love this book more than anything.

I felt as if this book started EXCEPTIONALLY slow and I found that so difficult because of how unlovable the narrator comes off, but the narrator goes through so much character growth throughout the story that it makes up for how slow the beginning of the book felt.

I want to start this review by saying I truly did enjoy this book, HOWEVER, I feel as if all of the character development was kind of just shoved into the last couple of chapters and it gave off a bit of a rushed ending because of that.
