Divergent by Veronica Roth
4.0
What I found interesting was that Veronica Roth said this is a version of her utopia in the interview portion of the book. I love this because I feel that my own utopia would be just as filled with adventure and overthrowing plots of authority figures. I believe people read dystopian literature not because they crave a utopia, but because the story and society set, especially in Dauntless society, creates an opportunity to employ adventure that people would want in their own utopias.
I also found that this book doesn't allow much for "favorite characters" other than Tris, the POV, or possibly Four since he is a romantic interest. That being said, she is a perfectly good favorite. Perhaps this changes in Insurgent? I have not read it yet. The shift from Four to Tobias bothered me a bit and I was wondering if I was the only one who considered just crossing out T̶o̶b̶i̶a̶s̶ and writing Four. I associated the letters to this image I had of the character's face and once it changed I was slow to shift.
