While Bridges' perspective is immeasurably valuable, I felt that this book was 90% pandering to a white audience. There was little examination or recounting of Bridges' life outside the context of her initial school integration in first grade, and still fewer insights into her feelings on the events of her youth as she matured. Primary sources from Black adults were also conspicuously absent.
