Ohhhh myyyy, I absolutely devoured this book. I could not control my facial expressions while reading this one and got some weird looks on the train!!

I picked this up for a fluffy little palate cleanser - I did not expect to cry while reading it on my lunchbreak at work. The portrayal of a relationship getting bogged down in the everyday stress of life was gut wrenching. I enjoyed (and hated) seeing how small things piled up and become seemingly insurmountable. I felt like I really needed someone to pat me on the back and tell me there would be a HEA to this book.
I love that Harriet chose to leave surgery. Was there a better option? Maybe! Perhaps it would have been more fun to have her move into a different health care role. But also, it was comforting to see someone completely walk away from the high pressure 'passion' career for their health and happiness!

This took me a really long time to get into, and truly felt as if I were accompanying the characters for every second of an entire month of their lives. Honestly, I was quite bored for the first half. But once things started happening, they happened quickly, and I began to really enjoy it!
I am interested in the second book. I do feel like it will be equally dense, but I am interested enough to continue reading!

Mother of Death and Dawn by Carissa Broadbent

Honestly this series was amazing. It had everything. My one criticism, that sometimes made the series feel like a bit of a slog, was that there was SO MUCH happening. The chapters are very short and it can leave you feeling a bit lost between each perspective and world altering event. So there were times I struggled with this series. But it was beautifully written, and every character was so complex. You could sympathise with everyone, including the characters you hated viscerally.
Wholeheartedly recommend, and looking forward to reading more of Broadbent's work!

Oh this made me so happy! I love Hoid as a narrator so much.
I feel like I already want to re-read this one with a highlighter in hand, so I will always be able to find my favourite jokes.

It took me a while to read, but when I committed myself to reading it I enjoyed it. Aefe's story was a brilliant addition, and I feel like the scope of the story just keeps getting bigger and bigger. I really enjoy Carissa's writing and am looking forward to reading the conclusion of the trilogy!

I'm in pain.
Honestly though, if the series had an editor, it would rate far higher. The characters and world has sucked me in, I just wish the writing was better, and someone helped the authors cut out unnecessary repetition
