I have mixed feelings about this book. But also keep in mind this review is only one person's opinion.
I can't deny the author is talented. The book seemed polished and like a lot of thought was put into it, and I do appreciate that about it. I can tell that it would be a beautiful book for the right person.
But it also didn't feel like much happened during this book. The pacing seemed really slow to me; the MCs don't even meet until more than 20% into it, and by 40% they had barely talked a few times. I wasn't expecting it to be, like, an action book... but it was somewhat of a struggle to get through. I guess it just wasn't for me.
Some things I admired about the book:
1. The MCs and even the SCs were fleshed out very well and the reader knows the motivations for their actions.
2. The book deals with some tough topics with respect and care.
3. The characters come from different backgrounds, and during the book they are in different places in their lives, but the book shows how different people can fit together well (MCs and SCs) and mix found family with blood family.
A couple things I wish I knew before reading the book that would have changed my decision to read it:
1. The romance is closed door.
2. It ends in what I'd consider a moderate HFN—not a HEA or even a strong HFN.
(Not that there is anything wrong with these two things, but they are factors for me.)
I received an ARC of this book; this is my honest opinion of it.

emotional
sad
tense
I liked it but found it to have an unnecessary amount of internal angst and lack of communication. Like the same thing happened over and over, and the same thoughts were had over and over.
