This is the third installment of These Highland Hills. Caitlin Campbell is the sister of the Clan chief. She is kidnapped by Darach McNaghten who is trying to free his brother who is clan chief. The McNaghten Clan is under proscription. However during their time together Caitlin starts to understand Darach and they fall in love and try to figure out a way to save his clan.

This was my least favorite in the series. Caitlin is a bit annoying to me. She goes through so many emotions in one paragraph and it's just frustrating. However it was a quick read and I do love the Scottish Highlands background of the story.

The Horse and His Boy takes place during the reign of Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy but they aren't the main characters like in the previous book, The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe. The main characters are Shasta and Aravis and two Horses Bree and Hwin. Shasta was found as a baby and raised by an abusing fisherman. The horse Bree and Shasta decide to escape to Narnia and during their adventure meet Hwin and Aravis.
Overall, I enjoyed the story. All the characters had their flaws and their experiences show them how to correct those flaws. I only wish that there was more of a conclusion. I would have loved one more chapter about how the characters adjusted to their new lives.

Prince Caspian is the 4th book in the Narnia (by chronological, not publication) and is probably my favorite in the series so far. Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy are called back to Narnia to help Prince Caspian regain the throne from his evil Uncle. Even though it was only a year since they had last been to Narnia, it was thousands of years to the Narnians. The adventures of Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy are now myth and legend.

The Voyage of the Dawn Treader is the 5th book in the Narnia series (series order not publication). This was probably my least favorite in the series. However, the book starts off with a perfect opening line! I wanted more from this story. Lucy, Edmund and their cousin Eustice are whisked away to Narnia in a painting and meet up with Prince Caspian. They then go on an adventure on ship called the Dawn Treader in search for the 7 lords. The book tends to drag a bit in the middle. I wanted more in the ending. It ends very abruptly and I didn't have a chance to process the fate of Lucy and Edmund. I would have also liked to see more of am ending with Caspian and Ramandu's daughter besides the one sentence. Overall, a classic and a lively adventure. I just wanted more.

The 6TH book of the Narnia series starts with Eustace, the cousin of Peter, Lucy, Susan and Edmund and his school mate Jill. As they are running from bullies they are whisked to Narnia. Aslan instructs Jill on what she is to do. She must find King Caspian's son. He tells her signs to look for to help her on their journey. During the journey she starts to forget to look for the signs and they come across many dangers on their adventure.

I enjoyed this book. I loved the main character Jill and how it was up to her to find the prince. One thing that Lewis is supurb at is making very strong and relatable characters regardless if they were human, faun, owl etc... It shows that everyone is different but can make a difference. Also that everyone has faults but can overcome them.

The conclusion for the Chronicles of Narnia starts with a Donkey and Ape who find a lions skin and the Ape tells the Donkey to impersonate Aslan who hasn't been seen in Narnia for thousands of years. King Tirian is the king of Narnia when he hears of Aslan and all the awful things he is doing. From England, Jill and Eustace come back to help him. This is the final battle and adventure in Narnia.

This was a great conclusion to the story no matter how heartbreaking. Narnia is no more and everyone goes to heaven. Since Lewis has very heavy Christian allegory in this story, I saw it coming. it was not a surprise ending to me. Lewis created an amazing world and amazing characters that will always be cherished for generations to come.

Captain Kidd is an older man who travels the west reading newspapers for payment. News is very welcome to those who live away from major cities. Along his way he is asked to take a little orphan girl back to her family in San Antonio. The girl, Johanna, was kidnapped by Kiowa natives and was raised with them for 4 years. The girl, did not want to leave the Kiowa and was a Kiowa through and through. Together they travel through the wild west and go on a magnificent adventure.

This book touched my soul. Captain Kidd is an extraordinary character. The bond he and Johonna develope through the course of the book is beautiful. Paulette Jiles has a unique format. However, she made up for it in character development and detail. Fantastic story!
