“My name is Amber Reynolds. There are three things you should know about me:
I’m in a coma
My husband doesn’t love me anymore
Sometimes I Lie”
-page 1, Sometimes I Lie
This is how the book starts. Amber Reynolds is in a coma, but she isn’t sure how she got there. However, she can hear everything around her. She can hear the conversations between her husband Paul and her sister Claire. Slowly but surely, her memory comes back to her.

“All I did was survive, and I was criminalized for it.” -Denise Huskins Facebook Post page 206
Warning, this book that I am reviewing contains graphic descriptions of rape and the aftermath.
A False Report: A True Story of Rape in America by T. Christian Miller and Ken Armstrong is a book that I recommend to everyone. It is a story that needs to be heard. The story begins with Marie from Washington. She was attacked in her home by a stranger who raped and photographed her. After numerous times telling her story to the police, police were starting to be skeptical of the inconsistencies. She also reacted differently to the event that the police had previously witnessed. After bringing her in for interrogation she admitted that she lied. She was then charged with making a false report.

This is the third book I have read by Erin McDermott. Forgotten Rebel is book one in The Allegiance Series. I have already read and reviewed Immortal Rebel (book .5) and Captive Rebel (book 0). This book picks up with exiled-Princess Fanny, sister of Ariston (one of the main characters in book 0) Her boyfriend, Charles, has been taken. She doesn’t know where he is, only that she needs to find him. The only way to find him is with the help of a man named Adonis. Adonis is mysterious, but Fanny finds herself oddly drawn to him. However, her only goal is to save Charles. She doesn’t know what lies ahead and she discovers a history that will change everything.
Once again, I flew through this book. I couldn’t put it down. The author is great at engaging the reader and keeping them hooked! I did love this story. However, like with the previous books, they leave off on a cliffhanger. This normally wouldn’t bother me, but I feel like I still haven’t had my questions answered from book 0, Captive Rebel. The author has created a very interesting dystopian world and has brought forth some wonderful characters. However, I don’t know where they are or what has happened to them. There are bits and pieces of information from the previous books but for me, it is not enough. If there is going to be a cliffhanger, at least tie the books together so the readers have their questions answered.
I am glad that we finally get a glimpse of what happened to our world before everything changed and I want to know more! I can’t wait to read the next installment because I have to know what happens! I am hoping we get to see more of the characters from all 3 books in the next installment.
Overall, I enjoyed this read! It was entertaining and the author definitely has a knack for world building and creating epic characters!
*I have received an advanced copy of this book and have voluntarily decided to review it*

One of the reasons I love reviewing for Bethany House is because they have a wonderful selection of historical fiction! A Refuge Assured by Jocelyn Green is a historical fiction that begins during The Reign of Terror in Revolutionary France. King Louis XVI and his wife Marie Antoinette have been executed, however, no one is safe. Vivienne Rivard was a lacemaker for the Queen, which in revolutionary France is a death sentence. Anyone associated with the aristocracy is arrested and sent to the guillotine. She manages to escape to America. She is not the only one. She meets one the ladies-in-waiting to Marie Antoinette and her son Henri Chastain. Unfortunately, her friend dies from a disease, leaving Henri is Vivienne’s care.
Henri is no ordinary boy since he was raised in Versailles. Revolutionary sympathizers and royalists both suspect that Henri is Louis-Charles Capet, the son of Marie Antoinette. Vivienne and Henri escape Philadelphia to a place called Asylum with the help of a man named Liam Delaney. He fought in the American Revolution and holds a great value on liberty. However, he fears for his government. The Whiskey Rebellion is in full force and it threatens to tear this new nation apart. Vivienne and Liam come together and fight for their lives and their own liberty.
