The book spends an excessive amount of pages talking about the war, as opposed to being more detailed about what drove readers to the book: the librarians of Timbuktu.

I get that he had to give us the context, but I think he got lost along the way

I'll write a review eventually. Right now, I'm too busy enjoying the aftertaste this book has left in my mind

A solid 4 stars, because I really think the author could have done more with the premise. The ending felt wrapped in a bit of a hurry

The premise was interesting enough, the narration was great, though too saturated with curses, some parts were hilarious (the 'silverclad' scene had me rolling. Chastain's disbelief was too real).
I struggled a bit to finish it because I thought it was dragging for too long, but at the same time, I didn't want to let the characters go. I do wish the pacing were a tad faster, but it's not bad.

The inclusion of Chastain and Celene as narrators piqued deeply my curiosity, and I enjoyed them. I wish that the teasing between Chastain and Gabriel had gotten somewhere, but oh well. I either grew used to the cursing or there's less of it in this book, because it felt less tiresome to read. I really enjoyed it and I'm eagerly awaiting for the next one! I want to know what happens!! Give me more of the story!

I'm quite ignorant on the Iran revolution, but books like this one are helping me to learn. The portrayal of the life before and after the revolution is painful, but knowing that there are still women fighting fills me with awe and hope.

I hadn't realised how much I missed the House and its inhabitants till I began to read this. Oh boy, the whole book is like a warm blanket on a freezing day, a hug when you can't handle life anymore. Hope. There's so much beauty contained in these stories.
